Merchant Taylor’s Golden Shears Award 2019

March 2019

Two of my tailored pieces got through to the semi finals. Deep red and black wool brocade smoking jacket with astrakhan black shawl lapel and cuffs. Fastened with frogging closure. Burgundy/black high waisted wide legged wool trouser with silk paisley detail lining and alpaca wool belt and pocket detailing. Fastened at the centre front with burgundy buttons. Please get in touch if you request a price.

The warmth of classically rich Italian tailoring merged with the history behind men’s luxury evening-wear. The notion of taking it out of the comfort of one’s home but still looking effortlessly elegant. The heavy brocade smoking coat features a collection of vintage brooches on an astrakhan shawl lapel, welt pockets and a frogging closure. The trousers finish high on the torso and fold over to give a slouched look, tied at the waist with an alpaca wool belt and lined with a silk paisley print that is usually used for pocket squares and ties.

The colour palette was inspired by the richly adorned paintings in Church ceilings of the churches I have encountered on my travels.
